In Dickson County, a two day conference is aimed at combating the child porn cyber crime problem by understanding different laws and procedures.  When it comes to crime, officers said the fight is at their fingertips. Child porn is flooding the internet.

"This is our effort to train state and local partners as well as federal agencies in the enforcement of child porn laws and detention of it," said U.S. Attorney General Ed Yarbrough. Battling child porn is relatively new for many departments and costly. "The problem that smaller departments have is obtaining the equipment to fight this type of crime because it is expensive with the computer equipment and the manpower," said Fairview police Capt. J.R. Holt.

John Patterson has been with Dickson County's cyber crime Unit since 2003. He said the department has put a lot of people behind bars, but the work is only beginning.  "As technology for us progresses it's advancing for the bad guys too, so we have to stay one step ahead of the them, which is a hard thing to do," said Patterson.

The conference continues Tuesday at the Renaissance Center in Dickson with topics such as online predators and how victims can testify in court.  The conference is part of the Federal Government's Project Safe Childhood which began in 2006 to combat online child exploitation.
